I love graphic design

Good morning all! Everyone has their passion, dreams, and concerns. Me, like the hipsters of my generation, I love graphic design because graphic design is my passion, that’s why I’m going to explain what it means to me, how I came to do this activity, the reasons why I like to do it, and what programs I use for support.

This story began two years ago when a very good friend accidentally found a site that licensed graphic design projects. What attracted me was also the price we offered to the best designers. They had to read the “briefing” and each work on their PC, trying to obtain a final product following the expectations of the offered. In the end, we choose the winner who, after the delivery of the project, receives the sum of money promised. This concept of working is called “freelancing”. This is how I and my friend became “freelancers”.

At first, it was a bit tough, until we started to understand how specialized programs in this field worked. Fortunately, I was fortunate enough to have worked in web design before, so I was a little used to the Adobe interface, more exactly Adobe Dreamweaver, a relatively suitable program for those who like web design. Web programming. But the list of programs used was longer, as we will see below.

Green gradually. We know that Photoshop was first created with “raster” images, is frequently used to modify photos. On the other hand, it is incorrect to edit vector images. This is a mistake I made too. But, when I had to deal with photos of different sizes without degrading the quality of the image, I found that I needed other tools as well. In the meantime, my friend, who was facing the same problem, recommended another useful program to me – Adobe Illustrator.

To get used to it, I first did simple things: edit a text, more exactly write a word, and apply different effects, styles, and colors to it. As I progressed in my process, I no longer found Adobe Illustrator so complicated. In conclusion, a very well optimized interface simplifies the work a lot, so much so that we become captivated by the things we can create. Thus, we realize that it is difficult to stop, because, once mastered, this program can maintain a certain dependence. Highlight the ideas that come to your mind and let your imagination work! Graphic design is my passion so it can help me enhance them!

The qualities when graphic design is my passion

Graphic design is my passion so in this field I will explain some things first,it is a field that mixes communication and the arts and, of course, when we talk about a good graphic designer, we will call him creative and talented. If that was just that, what would distinguish a good designer from a great designer? More creativity? More talent? My team and I identified the 8 qualities that a good graphic designer should have, in our opinion, to stand out from the crowd.

1.      Graphic design is my Passion

Passion for his profession shows the client that the graphic designer will invest himself to achieve a result of which he is proud and, by the same token, of which the client will also be proud.

2.      Curious

Curiosity is an asset in many aspects of life. As for the graphics, she is useful in different situations, such as when working with a new client and the expertise of her company is very sharp. It would then be easy to misinterpret the services or strategic objectives of the company and create communication tools that do not correspond to the need. It is therefore important to inform yourself on several levels before moving on to the creative aspect of a project. This curiosity makes it possible to multiply the concepts for the same project and therefore to obtain personalized results for the clients.

Besides, curiosity in graphics is very important to be up to date on the advances and new technologies in the field. This helps in the diversification of techniques, graphic styles, and possible avenues for the graphic designer.

3.      Accept criticism when graphic design is my passion

It is sometimes difficult to accept criticism when faced with a job where you have invested a lot of time and effort. But, it is important to trust colleagues and clients to improve a job that seemed perfect and done. Someone who has more expertise in a specific area sees components or details that we do not necessarily; see when it comes to a project that we have been working on for some time. We must therefore take the time to analyze the criticism, to detach from it, and retain the relevant elements to improve our work.

4.      Patient

Take his time. This is one of the best ways to achieve a result where you feel the work and the effort. Thinking and art take time. From brainstorm to design, each production step is important for a complete project. So, it is normal that a project that seems simple, in the end, takes time.

It is rare to find all of these qualities in a single individual it only you see in that person which says graphic design is my passion. To each of their strengths and therefore it is important to surround yourself; with a team that is made up of individuals with complementary skills to obtain a solid whole.

5.      Flexible

It is always good for the mind to question oneself or to question conceptual achievements. Even when you are satisfied with an idea; it is good to let it sit and, later, to work on it again so that it is more unique and optimal according to the mandate. It’s a great way to give your best.

6.      Resourceful

In the world of graphics, it is normal to face different obstacles. Whether it is at the conceptual, technical level, in the layout (or with a computer that does not want to cooperate …) it is important to manage to find its solutions. There are always resources available for help in all areas of the field.

Some tips about to passion in graphic design

As a child, I spent hours looking at the covers of my parents’ art books. But I liked the activities my mum offered us, like drawing or sewing. I grew up in the 90s when the pop culture of MTV and music exploded, everyone wore t-shirts with lettering, printed caps. I realized that I liked the idea of wearing what I created. While studying at university I collaborated with some guys who experimented with screen printing on T-shirts and so I discovered I also loved the practical aspect of graphics.

Have you always worked in the fashion world?

No, as soon as I arrived in Milan I created patterns for plaids, bags, and cushions for the historic Lanificio Leo in Calabria. I would like to return to work more for the world of home furnishings.

What exactly does a fashion graphic designer do?

He takes care of the graphics of the garments for a fashion company, then collaborates with the style office and with the stylist. It can be fabric patterns, T-shirt prints, embroidery. He interprets the designer’s idea of that collection as regards the graphic part. It is often a work of continuous collaboration, like a ping-pong of ideas and sketches.

Was there a fashion era in which graphic design was particularly relevant?

I immediately think of the 80s, with large, colorful, very impactful prints and therefore I think of Gianni Versace’s fashion. But also the optical graphics of the 60s or the “flower power” theme. Even simple stripes or polka dots can become very different depending on how they are designed and print characteristics of the French style. A certain graphic can completely change the look of an item of clothing.

When you have to make proposals to a fashion company, what inspires you?

To everything around me. This is what I have tried to convey to my students as well: inspiration and creativity are everywhere, you just have to learn and keep your eyes open. In books, on the street, in architecture: once I always wandered around with a sketchbook to make drawings, today I use the phone as a photographic archive of everything I see and find interesting. I am not directly interested in fashion trends, but I prefer to keep up to date on the evolving culture, from theater to TV series to contemporary art.

What are the graphic designers of the past influencing your work?

Also thanks to Viennese friends like Arthur I got to know better the work of the Wiener Werkstätte, which at the beginning of the twentieth century was truly a revolution. I have often been to Vienna to learn more about the history of this collective. In particular, Koloman Moser, one of the founders, worked a lot on the design and graphics.

What is the mistake to avoid absolutely in your work?

Don’t consider the (many) constraints that a design project must face, sooner or later. Constraints of all kinds: technical and production constraints; economic constraints regarding the feasibility and sustainability of what was designed; legal constraints, since copyright or industrial property rights of other authors must not be infringed either intentionally or accidentally; and last but not least the constraints that the customer imposes for various reasons for personal needs. Design is not boundless creativity, on the contrary, good design is one that finds innovative and strategically effective solutions to overcome all these obstacles even in a confined and restricted space.

What are your current projects?

I recently launched a startup that has more to do with art than with design. It is called “Wallaby” and is a digital art gallery in which canvases of illustrations are sold that have a profound meaning relating to themes that characterize modern society. To name a few: parodic illustrations that make us reflect on the detachment from classical art, clichés ranging from the world of design to that of financial trading, up to an emblematic collection of bulldogs to be discovered … They are ironic and light canvases, but which, if we stop to reflect, hide a social denunciation and a strong message. I leave any further information to your curiosity: everything is published. I’ll be biased, but I think the illustrations are worth the effort to take a look.
